The Behavioral Healthcare Alliance of Alabama joined forces with the Alabama Council for Behavioral Healthcare (ACBH) to launch a campaign that spoke directly to lawmakers in session. The mission of the campaign was to bring to light the urgent need for government funding that could make mental healthcare more accessible in the areas that needed it most.
Our agency exists to help others make their mark on the community. Sometimes we even get to help the community itself. Whether it’s a local business, national brand, or nonprofit, Stamp enjoys solving problems in a creative manner. We also take pride in the amount of advocacy work we are asked to produce and believe there is true power in developing the right message, to the right people, at the right time.
Background
Developing a Marketing Action Plan for the Behavioral Healthcare Alliance of Alabama (BHAA), a consortium of seven mental health organizations operating throughout the state of Alabama revealed that the Alabama Legislature could play a key role in getting funding for care into rural communities. The BHAA joined forces with the Alabama Council for Behavioral Healthcare (ACBH) to launch a campaign that spoke directly to lawmakers in session. The mission of the campaign was to bring to light the urgent need for government funding that could make mental healthcare more accessible in the areas that needed it most.
Reasoning
In order to successfully influence the legislature, we needed them fully understand how dire the situation was in Alabama’s mental health community. To clearly stand out amongst the piles of other handouts that are distributed to legislators, Stamp designed an oversized trifold consisting of one long and continuous infographic. Working hand in hand with leaders of the ACBH and BHAA, we narrowed down what we felt would be the most important stats and topics to bring to light.
Solution
Bold color and custom illustration helped emphasize the dramatic nature of the problems created by shortfalls in healthcare funding for rural communities. Simple presentation of the compelling facts made the argument for funding a quick read for busy legislators who are bombarded by similar quests every session. The 12” height combined with a supersaturated color meant the piece stood out on their desk.
The 2020 legislative session saw the passage of $18 million to fund three mental health crisis centers. We were honored to be a part of raising awareness for mental health.
