Stamp: Make Your Mark

Advertising + Interactive + Media

By 2019, 90% of keyword searches will return videos in the results

If you don’t have meaningful video content with accurate metadata on the most popular video sites you will be missing the majority of your consumers.

Thinking you better get on YouTube with some optimized videos? Start with updating the metadata on your current YouTube videos and then expand by uploading your videos to other sites like Facebook and Vimeo.

  • Demographics matter! The Wall Street Journal has reported that people aged 18 to 34, the group that marketers often pay a premium to reach, spend 44% more time watching online video and 36% more time watching YouTube than the average internet user. The web offers advertisers the opportunity to reach that audience with more frequency.
  • Metadata is itemized information about a file. Metadata for video is particularly helpful because video, unlike a document or blog, does not include keywords as text. It is the keywords that computers and search engines use to search for content in videos. Here’s what YouTube says about using accurate and descriptive metadata for your video, “YouTube is the second largest search engine, so don’t get lost in the mix, let people find you. Our algorithms are good, but they can only read, they can’t watch your videos. So in order to properly classify your video and index it for search, we need your help.”
  • YouTube has over a billion users — almost one-third of all people on the Internet — and everyday people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube and generate billions of views.
  • Don’t neglect other video sites. Last year Vimeo announced they have 20 million registered users and that number continues to climb. According to Facebook’s third-quarter earnings, they now have 1.55 billion monthly users and more than 1 billion people who use the service every day. Since April, daily video views have doubled from 4 billion to 8 billion and more than 75% of video views are on a mobile device.
