By 2019, 75% of web traffic will be accessed from a mobile device

Mobile browsing is growing exponentially. The consumer’s passion for immediate information access increasingly requires effectively delivering your online content via mobile devices; which means mobile optimized web sites are ever more critical.

The United Nations estimates that by 2019 there will be over 7.6 billion people in the world. Business Insider estimates there will be over 10.3 billion Internet-connected mobile devices active in 2019. In other words, in the very near future, there will be 1.3 mobile devices on the planet for every one person.

  • Google research, published in May 2014, said that 50% of mobile users are most likely to visit a store after conducting a local search, while 34% of consumers on tablets or computers will go to a store. And Google says these people are ready to buy once they are in a store, as 18% of local searches lead to sales, compared to 7% for non-local searches. Of those who participated in the survey, 88% used smartphones and 84% used a computer or tablet.
  • Forbes reported: 74% of people use their mobile phone to help them while shopping, with 79% making a purchase as a result; 70% of mobile searches lead to action within one hour (It takes a full month for the same percentage of desktop users to catch up); mobile coupons receive 10x higher redemption rates than print coupons.
  • The National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2014 Holiday Consumer Spending Survey found the majority of smartphone owners (55.7%) used their device, an all-time high. Specifically, 35.8% researched products/prices, the highest amount ever recorded. Almost two-thirds (63.2%) of tablet owners used their device to research and purchase holiday items. These numbers are expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
